Different types of coverings will require different methods of cleaning. However, generally speaking, applying a light dusting to any blind, drape, shutter or other treatment will be adequate in maintaining its overall look and feel.

When drawing closed or opening drapes give them a light shake to release any dust. For blinds and shutters use a dust cloth or feather duster and gently brush over the treatment removing dust particles or loose dirt built up.

If a window treatment requires a heavier dusting then it is advisable to use a vacuum but make sure to use the soft brush attachment and lightly glide it over the coverings.

Avoid using excessive moisture or water on wood products. Dust wipes are recommended since they are unlikely to damage or stain the wood.

Spot cleaning with a light detergent, if needed, can be applied to drapes, shades, blinds and shutters. Use lukewarm water and dab the soiled spot lightly. It is possible to machine wash coverings but be sure to check the washing label on the treatment before placing it in a washer or dryer.

Certain fabrics may also be ironed. If doing so, it is good practice to iron on the reserve side. Another option is to hang when slightly damp to avoid wrinkling from dryers.
